WoW Forever September 24 beta notes: class tuning, camping and gamepad changes

The September 24, 2026 beta update makes waiting at a campfire less restrictive, reshapes several leveling talent choices and opens testing for the Cooldown Manager. Class changes reach nearly every role; controller users also gain new targeting and action-bar options.
Camping, performance and everyday fixes
- Casting, buffing other players and crafting no longer force you to stand while waiting for a Campfire buff. Sitting on the ground or a chair, sleeping, lying down and kneeling can all earn the buff.
- Casters once again show their precast animations instead of sometimes standing still through a cast. Water-jump audio and Human death sounds have changed.
- Huey Sunnydale's legs render correctly. An accidentally visible Season of Discovery rune ability is hidden again. Pet Happiness now decreases even at maximum loyalty.
- The Undercity canal ooze is less bright. An option that unintentionally disabled fog has been removed. Mac water rendering and other visual artifacts are corrected.
- A memory leak that gradually hurt performance is fixed, and in-game mail now respects surnames.
Analysis Camping's waiting period becomes useful downtime: you can prepare crafts and buffs while remaining in an eligible resting pose. The memory fix also matters over a long session, where the slowdown could grow gradually.
Class changes
For this beta only, a talent reset costs 1 silver if you have not reset recently. The next reset is much more expensive, but the price returns to 1 silver after 1 hour.
Druid
- Rejuvenation, Tranquility and Restoration's Wild Growth can critically heal. Wrath gains approximately 50% base damage.
- Thorns updates with its caster's spell power as that value changes. It falls back to base values if the caster cannot be found or is too distant.
- Feral's Mangle is renamed Primal Bite after losing the debuff that defined its old name; all talent references follow the rename. Primal Fury becomes Blood Frenzy, restoring that name and its original icon.
- Feral Charge (Cat) can no longer target allies.
Hunter
- Furious Howl grants 40% less Attack Power. Bat pets can now use Sonic Blast. Tame Beast cannot tame a beast above the Hunter's level.
- Leaving Lone Wolf no longer leaves a −4% damage penalty while a pet is active.
- Survival's Lacerating Strikes can critically hit. Strider Kick grants 30% movement speed for 3 seconds.
Mage
- Arcane Missiles checks line of sight when the channel begins, rather than for every missile. A target moving behind cover during the channel no longer stops the remaining missiles.
- Fire's Wake of Fire lasts 30 seconds, up from 20; Hot Streak lasts 20 seconds, up from 15. Ignite no longer benefits twice from percentage damage increases.
- Blizzard's stated aim for the longer Wake of Fire is to let leveling Mages restore mana between fights without losing the buff so easily.
Paladin
- Retribution Aura dynamically follows its caster's spell power. Flash of Light plays its end-of-cast animation correctly.
- Consecration consistently applies its increased-damage effect and handles height correctly, including avoiding unintended pulls from above or below the caster.
- Holy Strike's weapon-damage percentages by rank become 25/29/32/36/39/43/46/50%, replacing 25/25/30/30/35/35/40/40%. The developers want new ranks to feel more worthwhile while leveling and the spell to contribute more to the rotation.
- Echo of Justice no longer triggers more often than intended. Righteous Fury's bonus Holy threat changes from 90% to 60%.
- Holy: Holy Strike's cooldown becomes 10 seconds, down from 12. Improved Holy Strike is removed from the tree and its cooldown benefit becomes baseline. The developers wanted to remove an early healing-tree choice that felt compulsory for a core ability. Light's Vigil's tooltip clarifies that only its damage version returns part of the mana cost. Holy Power adds 15% critical-strike chance to Holy Strike while retaining its previous effects.
- Retribution: Vengeance triggers on non-periodic critical strikes and caps at 3 stacks, down from 5. Two-Handed Weapon Specialization grants 2/4/6% damage instead of 3/6/9%. Sacred Arbiter boosts Holy Strike damage by 20%, up from 10%. Twist of Light also reduces Seal mana costs by 20%.
Analysis The Paladin changes pull in different directions: Holy Strike gains a stronger baseline and scaling ranks, while several wider damage and threat bonuses shrink. Treating the whole package as a simple buff would miss the effects on talent choice and threat management.
Priest
- Renew can critically heal. Power Word: Shield can always replace another Power Word: Shield when the target has no Weakened Soul.
- Gnome: Contingency Plan can critically hit. Confounding Flash gains a cast visual, with Holy-themed effects and matching audio replacing the Arcane presentation.
- Night Elf: Twilight Focus correctly protects Starshards against spell pushback.
- Undead: Dark Sacrifice no longer breaks damage-sensitive crowd control. Its tooltip now states that the mana gained scales with Spirit.
Rogue
- Sap used against a PvP-flagged target now correctly flags the Rogue for PvP.
Shaman
- Ranks 3 and 4 of Lightning Bolt deal more damage so that learning them remains an upgrade despite cast-time changes.
- Buff labels now read Windfury Totem and Flametongue Totem, dropping the old “Passive” and “Effect” suffixes. Flametongue Totem's buff has no duration and is immediately replaced when another totem is placed. Repeated casts cannot stack it; it also cannot stack with Flametongue Weapon or Windfury Totem.
- Tranquil Air Totem, Windfury Totem and Grace of Air Totem cannot stack with each other, including when different Shamans in the party provide them.
- Elemental: Elemental Fury moves from row 3 to 6, trading places with Elemental Alacrity. Blizzard wants an earlier functional progression step instead of critical-damage scaling before leveling characters have much critical chance. The developers acknowledge the effect on Enhancement spell critical damage and intend to use that space for future Enhancement changes. Lava Burst ranks 1 and 2 now have approximately 10% more base damage than the Lightning Bolt rank learned around the same level.
- Enhancement: Row 7's Rage of the Farseer no longer increases spell casting speed; the developers consider it unnecessary to the ability's core function.
- Restoration: Riptide can critically heal.
Warlock
- Life Tap's tooltip correctly reports the health converted and names only Spirit as its scaling stat. The Voidwalker's Sacrifice correctly receives 10% of the Warlock's spell healing.
Warrior
- Sunder Armor has corrected threat at every rank, including a small increase to the threat gained from Attack Power.
- Protection: Focused Rage moves from row 6 to 5, exchanging places with Bastion. The developers want smoother leveling before Shield Slam, favoring earlier resource relief over Bastion's extra damage.
- Arms: Bloodthrill's trigger chances become 4/8/12/16/20%, up from 2/4/6/8/10%. Only main-hand melee attacks activate it, including Cleave and Heroic Strike. Slam's cooldown rises from 15 to 18 seconds; Improved Slam reduces it by 1.5/3 seconds.
Racial abilities
- Gnomes' Eureka! gives every class a 10% discount on abilities that spend Mana, Rage or Energy.
- Humans' Will to Survive uses the visual of Dispel Magic instead of Will of the Forsaken.
- Taurens' Cultivation requires a player level equal to the herb's Herbalism requirement divided by 5. Herbs requiring more than 300 Herbalism can be cultivated at player level 60.
- Touch of the Grave no longer breaks crowd control or triggers from abilities with no damage component. Shadow Word: Pain can trigger it on application, but not on periodic ticks. Distract cannot trigger it to expose a stealthed Rogue or Druid; Pick Pocket and Polymorph cannot trigger it either. Polymorph was already protected from being broken by the effect.
Cooldown Manager testing
The Cooldown Manager is disabled by default. Enable it in Options, under the gameplay enhancement settings to move important buff and action-bar information into a customizable position. This update opens testing for Druid, Mage, Priest, Warrior and Warlock, with other classes planned later. The developers specifically want to know which spells players want tracked by default. Spell-rank support is still forthcoming.
Analysis This first test is about visibility and defaults as much as cooldown timers. Compare its display with your actual casts before relying on an absent icon: the known issues below include both missing trackers and trackers that begin late.
Gamepad controls
- New class flyouts cover Druid forms, Hunter and Warlock pet commands and spells, Paladin auras and Warrior stances. Hunter and Warlock pet bars no longer replace the bottom gamepad action bar.
- Use Compact Action Bar shows only the currently active bar.
- Fixed Party Targeting assigns each directional-pad button to a particular party member outside raids.
- Swap Target Modifier Sides puts friendly targeting on the right and hostile targeting on the left.
- Swap Friendly Targeting Action Sides and Swap Hostile Targeting Action Sides separately exchange directional-pad and face-button actions for the corresponding targeting modifier.
- These settings sit in Gamepad (Alpha). Edit Mode layouts now apply with the gamepad interface enabled. Map and Quest Log bindings are updated, point-of-interest pins gain hover behavior, and support for the Compact Raid Frame Manager and Role Poll Frames is updated.
Items and quest rewards
- Guns and bows that incorrectly used or failed to consume ammunition are corrected. Several quest rewards now have the intended item level, and a small set of early caster rewards is adjusted.
- Minor Wizard Oil returns to 8 spell power, Lesser Wizard Oil to 16, and Wizard Oil to 24. Brilliant Wizard Oil is unchanged.
- Wands no longer receive extra damage from the wielder's spell damage.
Quests and world spawns
Dungeon quests that incorrectly granted the receiving player a quest item when shared are no longer shareable in that way.
- Dalaran: faction adjustments accompany spawns immediately outside the city entrance.
- Dun Morogh: Snow Leopard Prowler respawns much faster; players blocked from looting the rifle for Treacherous Cold can now loot it.
- Durotar: the escort NPC for Lost in the Shadows returns sooner.
- Elwynn Forest: completing Book Return removes the extra Book Bag. Stolen Enchanting Supplies has more crate and supply spawns. Murloc camps around Crystal Lake respawn faster. Mother Fang returns more slowly and no longer guarantees a green item. Shinyfinder Narf and Nimsy respawn faster; every party member can loot Narf's quest item. Helene Peltskinner teaches Skinning even while you have her quest. Jasperlode Mine and Fargodeep Mine receive adjustments to address excessive difficulty for solo players.
- Mulgore: Water Pitchers for A Humble Task return faster.
- Silithus: Khonsu's arrival is removed from this beta phase, with a later return to Azeroth planned.
- Silverpine Forest: the worgen in Pyrewood Village respawn faster.
- Teldrassil: Bounty: Gnarlpine Furbolg requires 15 objectives instead of 20.
- Undercity: talking to Lady Sylvanas Windrunner now completes that objective in the Skyborne quest Exploring the Horde.
- Westfall: Defias Messenger spawns more often.
- Zephras Isle: the High Order Skyborne quest Catching Wind is redesigned, with spawn adjustments at the Overlook Standing Stones in Shen'dar Highlands. Healing the druids in Nightclaw Cavern correctly credits Wounds of Betrayal; A Firm Response also grants its missing credit.
Analysis Faster returns and group-wide quest loot should ease crowded starting areas. The slower Mother Fang respawn and removal of her guaranteed green drop move the other way, so a route built around repeatedly farming her loses part of its attraction.
Interface and known issues on September 24
The nameplate selection display and Personal Resource Display textures are updated. The same update identifies these remaining problems:
- Banes and Curses lose correct tracking when you drop a target and select it again with an existing effect.
- Healthstone and pet cooldowns cannot be tracked. Item enhancements such as Windfury and Rogue poisons also cannot be tracked.
- Priest tracks every spell by default. Arcane Blast cannot be tracked. A Mage's mana gem cooldown begins tracking only after another spell is cast.
- Forming or changing a party can move players to another world instance; improvements are in progress.
- Stormwind's minimap has rendering problems, and the Personal Resource Display does not show combo points.
Quest resolutions in the September 24 companion update
The same day's issue update marks two additional problems as resolved: Sentinel Lynessa Duskblossom moving too fast and repeatedly using Strike during Escaping Ban'ethil, and Snowbound in Loch Modan awarding too much experience. Both entries still say the changes are in the next beta build, so they do not establish an exact rollout time.
