City of Dalaran

Quests: level 33–35

Alliance and Horde groups enter Dalaran through the sewers after arranging their faction's access key, then work toward the arcane disturbance above the Violet Citadel. The run ends with Shade of the Archmage in the Purple Parlor and the Arcane Mote for Heart of Disruption; summoning Lyn the Ignored is an optional sewer detour.

Preparation

Dalaran Sewers

Use the sewer gate beside Lordamere Lake and advance from the tavern side toward Atrexis's ritual area. Clear the enemies beside his patrol before engaging him; his Raise Dead summons make an uncleared pull harder to control. Defeat Atrexis before continuing toward the climb into the city.

Disarm limits the tank's weapon attacks while Thrash, Strike and Unholy Frenzy increase pressure during repeated Raise Dead summons.

Abilities

  • Disarm

Disarms an enemy, forcing it to stop wielding its weapon for 6 seconds.

Be ready to control the pull while the tank cannot wield a weapon; remove the nearby enemies before engaging Atrexis.

  • Raise Dead

Defeat the early summons, then return damage to Atrexis so repeated Raise Dead casts do not prolong the fight indefinitely.

  • Thrash

Gives the caster 2 extra attacks.

Prepare tank healing for the extra attacks from Thrash, especially while Unholy Frenzy is active.

  • Strike

Use tank mitigation if Strike lands during Unholy Frenzy; its immediate weapon hit adds to the faster swings.

  • Unholy Frenzy

Remove the hostile Magic buff if possible; otherwise use tank defensives while the attack-speed increase is active.

Tank
Pull Atrexis after the enemies around his patrol are cleared. Collect Raise Dead summons and keep a defensive available for Unholy Frenzy and Thrash, including while Disarm disables your weapon.
Healer
Expect abrupt tank damage from Thrash and Strike rather than a steady stream of ordinary swings. Increase tank support during Unholy Frenzy and watch the raised creatures while Disarm limits the tank's attacks.
Damage
Kill the early Raise Dead summons, then concentrate damage on Atrexis to end the repeated summoning. Purge Unholy Frenzy if your class can remove a hostile Magic buff.

Sewer Ritual Circle

For the optional Lyn encounter, continue beyond Atrexis until the main sewer route bends right and climbs. Continue straight into the side passage instead and use the Tome of Dalaran at the violet ritual circle. Return to the upward route after the fight.

This optional summon tests curse removal on the tank while Raise Dead and Shadow Bolt Volley pressure the group.

Abilities

  • Raise Dead

Pick up and defeat the raised creatures before repeated summons overrun the healer.

  • Shadow Bolt Volley

Hurls missiles of dark magic, inflicting Shadow damage to nearby enemies.

Prepare group healing for Shadow Bolt Volley rather than assigning all healing to the tank.

  • Curse of Thorns

Remove Curse of Thorns promptly; attacks can trigger retaliation against the cursed player.

Tank
Collect the Raise Dead summons and call for Curse of Thorns to be removed. Avoid continuing attacks through the curse when its retaliation could kill you.
Healer
Cover the group for Shadow Bolt Volley while watching the tank's Curse of Thorns retaliation. If your class removes curses, clear it before the tank's attacks cause further damage.
Damage
Handle the Raise Dead summons before they reach the healer. Remove Curse of Thorns from the tank if your class can decurse, then return damage to Lyn.

Dalaran

Climb out of the sewers and clear the city's terrace, gardens and commerce district. Find Arcane Anomaly on the terrace and Unstable Sentinel in Magus Commerce Exchange; include Arcanic Enigma for Power Overwhelming. Clear the enemies around Mana Devourer before pulling it, and collect the city quest objectives before going up to the Violet Citadel.

Creatures

  • Seeking RemnantElite Elemental

Seeking Remnants detect stealthed players. Clear the one covering your passage rather than trying to slip the group past it in stealth.

  • Saturated RemnantElite Elemental

Saturated Remnants deal Arcane damage with their regular attacks. Account for magic damage when choosing mitigation; block alone will not protect the tank from these swings.

Focal Blast demands movement out of a frontal beam between Arcane Bolt hits on the tank.

Abilities

  • Arcane Bolt

Hurls a magical bolt at an enemy, inflicting Arcane damage.

Prepare healing for Arcane Bolt on the tank; moving out of Focal Blast does not remove this damage.

  • Focal Blast

Channels energy forward dealing damage to any targets caught within the blast.

Sidestep the forward beam when the channel begins and keep clear of its path until it ends.

Tank
Keep movement available for Focal Blast instead of standing in its forward beam to maintain attacks. Use magic mitigation for Arcane Bolt when available.
Healer
Stand away from the beam's forward path while keeping the tank in healing range for Arcane Bolt. Move with Focal Blast rather than trying to heal through the channel.
Damage
Leave the front of Arcane Anomaly as Focal Blast begins. Resume attacks from a position outside the beam rather than trading health for channel uptime.

Drain Vitality pressures the tank while repeated Debilitate casts consume the group's mana.

Abilities

  • Drain Vitality

Continue healing the tank after the initial hit because Drain Vitality also deals Arcane damage over time.

  • Debilitate

Hits an enemy with a bolt of draining arcane power that siphons up to 200 mana.

Begin with mana restored and commit damage cooldowns early so repeated mana siphons do not exhaust the healer.

Tank
Clear Mana Devourer's surrounding enemies before the pull. Use mitigation for Drain Vitality to reduce the healing needed while Debilitate removes the healer's mana.
Healer
Enter with mana restored and reserve enough healing for Drain Vitality's ongoing damage. Avoid spending the mana budget as though Debilitate were only a health hit.
Damage
Start this fight with resources ready and use damage cooldowns before repeated Debilitate casts drain the group's mana. Clear the surrounding enemies before committing to Mana Devourer.

Mana Elemental

Arcanic EnigmaElite Elemental

Arcanic Enigma tests the group's ability to keep its healer casting through Manamorph and Silence while controlling Summon Manaling.

Abilities

  • Manamorph

Transforms an enemy into an animal, forcing it to wander around for up to 8 seconds. While wandering, the polymorph cannot attack or cast spells.

Dispel Manamorph, especially from the healer; the transformed player cannot attack or cast.

  • Silence

Silences an enemy, preventing it from casting spells for 10 seconds.

Keep healers and ranged attackers away from the boss to avoid the nearby Silence. Use a defensive if the healer is silenced.

  • Summon Manaling

Collect and defeat the summons before they accumulate on the healer, then return damage to Arcanic Enigma.

Tank
Keep Arcanic Enigma away from the healer's position and collect the creatures from Summon Manaling. Use a defensive when Manamorph or Silence prevents healing.
Healer
Heal from range to avoid the nearby Silence. Remove Manamorph when you can dispel Magic, and arrange another dispeller to free you if you are transformed.
Damage
Switch to the Summon Manaling creatures before they overwhelm the healer, then return to Arcanic Enigma. Dispel Manamorph if your class can remove Magic; ranged attackers should remain outside the nearby Silence.

Arcing Smash punishes the sentinel's front while Malfunction forces players away from its repeated Arcane pulses.

Abilities

  • Arcing Smash

Lashes out in a vicious arc, inflicting damage to enemies in a cone in front of the caster.

Keep everyone except the tank out of the cone in front of Unstable Sentinel.

  • Malfunction

A malfunction has occurred. Every 2s arcane energy is released dealing damage to players in a nearby area.

Move away when Malfunction begins and remain outside its pulsing area until the effect ends.

Tank
Point Arcing Smash away from the group. Keep the healer able to stand at range instead of turning the sentinel's cone toward them during Malfunction.
Healer
Heal from outside Malfunction's pulse area when possible and keep clear of Arcing Smash's cone. Watch melee players who leave the pulse area late.
Damage
Attack from the side or rear to avoid Arcing Smash. Leave the Malfunction pulse area when it starts rather than remaining in melee for another attack.

Fel Grove

Visit the central grove before the final ascent to the Violet Citadel. Use the conversation beside Fel Ancient's barrier to open the fight. Leave room to move away from Fel Timbers, and complete A Green Sample in the garden while you are here.

Entangle can trap a player in the poisonous ground created by Fel Timbers.

Abilities

  • Entangle

Entangles an enemy in roots, inflicting Nature damage every 3 sec. and immobilizing it for up to 10 seconds.

Free rooted players who are caught in poisonous ground; movement tools such as Blessing of Freedom let them escape the overlap.

  • Fel Timbers

Move away from the incoming vines and leave the poisonous fumes they create. Keep an escape route open for anyone released from Entangle.

Tank
Move Fel Ancient away from the fumes left by Fel Timbers so melee players can keep attacking from clear ground. Ask for a root break if Entangle pins you in the fumes.
Healer
Prioritize a player rooted inside Fel Timbers and arrange a root break before the ground damage accumulates. Choose a clear position for your next cast rather than remaining in the fumes.
Damage
Leave the vines' impact area and the fumes left behind. If you can free another player from Entangle, use that ability when the root overlaps poisonous ground.

Purple Parlor

Meet the Image of Archmage Modera at the Violet Citadel and use the portal to the Purple Parlor. Defeat Shade of the Archmage and collect the Arcane Mote for Heart of Disruption. After turning it in, follow Friend of the Kirin Tor or Shrewd Negotiations to Archmage Celindra.

Bounding Mana threatens both its outward and return paths, while Mass Polymorph interrupts the fight before the Shade restores mana with Evocation.

Abilities

  • Arcane Bolt

Hurls a magical bolt at an enemy, inflicting Arcane damage.

Maintain healing on the tank for Arcane Bolt while the group moves around Bounding Mana.

  • Bounding Mana

Move out of the orb's outward path and leave its return path clear as well. Reposition the Shade away from the orb's origin.

  • Arcane Explosion

Sends out a blast wave of magic, inflicting Arcane damage to nearby enemies.

Move away from the Shade for Arcane Explosion after the orb returns; dodging the orb alone does not avoid this nearby blast.

  • Mass Polymorph

Transforms nearby enemies into an animal, forcing it to wander around for up to 8 seconds. While wandering, they cannot attack or cast spells.

As the Shade runs out of mana, prepare for a period in which Mass Polymorph prevents the group from attacking or casting.

  • Evocation

While channeling this spell, your mana regenerates at an accelerated rate.

The Shade restores mana with Evocation after Mass Polymorph. Once control returns, recover the group's positions and resume the fight.

Tank
Move the Shade away from Bounding Mana's launch position without crossing its return path. Create distance for the following Arcane Explosion, then restore control after Mass Polymorph ends.
Healer
Keep the tank covered for Arcane Bolt while moving clear of both orb paths. Recover the group's health as the Shade's mana empties, before Mass Polymorph stops your casts.
Damage
Dodge Bounding Mana on both legs of its journey and back away from the following Arcane Explosion. Resume damage after Mass Polymorph and Evocation rather than treating the mana refill as the end of the encounter.

City of Dalaran

Mana Wraith's location within the City of Dalaran is unconfirmed.
