WoW Forever beta hotfixes, September–October: quests, loot and disconnects

Smaller WoW Forever beta updates between September 21 and October 6 addressed blocked quest progression, login queues and several errors outside the weekly development notes. The same period also brought a shooting change announced for a future build and two brief maintenance notices without detailed gameplay changes.

September 21: A Firm Response progression

The event in A Firm Response could stall after Lorthuna appeared, preventing Windshaper Skyborne characters on Zephras Isle from progressing. The sequence began by speaking to Belathaan Brightwish near the Shrine of Akir.

An earlier attempted fix had failed. On September 21, Blizzard confirmed another fix and reported seeing testers complete the quest.

September 23: shooting correction announced

For the Hunter class, Auto Shot was using less than its intended 0.5-second cast before firing. Wands had the same problem, allowing both kinds of attack with a shorter stop than intended.

Blizzard announced a correction for an upcoming beta build; September 23 was the announcement date, not its implementation date. The October 15 patch notes later specify the 0.5-second stationary requirement for Auto Shot and wands.

September 25: stability maintenance planned

Blizzard announced a brief shutdown and restart to apply fixes intended to address stability. The notice did not identify particular gameplay changes or confirm the result of those fixes.

September 27: login queue fix

Responding to a report of a login queue after a disconnect, Blizzard said it had found and fixed an issue that was causing the queue to fill.

October 3–4: Australian login warning corrected

Australian testers could see a login dialog claiming their social features were locked. Those features were not actually locked. Blizzard confirmed the dialog fix on October 3 UTC and dated the announcement’s update October 4 at 04:00 AEDT.

October 4 UTC: Gnomeregan loot report addressed

Players reported that bosses in Gnomeregan were dropping no loot, including quest loot. Blizzard’s reply, posted on October 4 UTC, confirmed a fix made earlier that afternoon in the United States, on October 3. The reply gave no individual boss or item changes.

October 5: service maintenance planned

A further brief realm restart was announced to apply fixes expected to improve the game service. This notice also supplied no specific gameplay changes.

October 6: quest chests, transport and guilds

The next restart was announced with three priority fixes:

  • A fix intended to address missing quest items that should be restocked in chests.
  • A fix for occasional disconnects while riding an elevator or transport.
  • A correction for an error when joining or leaving a guild.

Analysis: These updates chiefly concern access and progression: entering the realm, completing a quest, receiving loot and moving through the world. The shooting notice follows a different timeline, with the announced change appearing in the October 15 notes. The two nonspecific maintenance notices do not establish additional gameplay changes.
