WoW Forever Hunter guide, levels 1 to 20: abilities, first talents and Legacy

A Hunter is a Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, or High Order Skyborne on the Alliance side and an Orc, Tauren, Troll, or Windshaper Skyborne on the Horde side. Skyborne come with the Skyborne Heroic Pack and the packs that include it. Best race for a Hunter compares their racials. A new Hunter already knows Auto Shot and Raptor Strike. From level 10, the Taming the Beast quests teach Tame Beast, Call Pet and Dismiss Pet, and Training the Beast, the quest after them, teaches Beast Training, Feed Pet and Revive Pet. Your class trainer teaches every other ability in the level list, and each new rank, once you reach its level. Your first talent point comes at level 10, or earlier with the Legacy perk Talented.

What does each new ability do?
- Throw: Hurl a thrown weapon at the target. It comes with the Thrown skill, which no Hunter starts with.
- Auto Shot: Automatically shoots the target until cancelled. It needs a bow, gun or crossbow. Dwarf and Tauren Hunters start with the Guns skill, and every other Hunter starts with Bows. Every Hunter has to learn Crossbows before using a crossbow. Since the October 15 beta update you have to stand still for a moment before it fires.
- Raptor Strike: A strong attack that deals melee weapon damage plus 5.
- Track Beasts: Shows the location of all nearby beasts on the minimap. Only one form of tracking can be active at a time.
- Aspect of the Monkey: The hunter takes on the aspects of a monkey, increasing chance to dodge by 8%. Only one Aspect can be active at a time.
- Serpent Sting: Stings the target, causing 10 Nature damage over 15 seconds. Only one Sting per Hunter can be active on any one target.
- Arcane Shot: An instant shot that causes 20 Arcane damage.
- Hunter's Mark: Places the Hunter's Mark on the target, increasing the Ranged Attack Power of all attackers against that target by 26. In addition, the target of this ability can always be seen by the hunter whether it stealths or turns invisible. The target also appears on the mini-map. Lasts for 2 minutes.
- Concussive Shot: Dazes the target, slowing movement speed by 50% for 4 seconds.
- Aspect of the Hawk: The hunter takes on the aspects of a hawk, increasing Ranged Attack Power by 20. Only one Aspect can be active at a time.
- Tame Beast: Begins taming a beast to be your companion. Your armor is reduced by 100% while you focus on taming the beast for 20 seconds. If you lose the beast's attention for any reason, the taming process will fail. Once tamed, the beast will be very unhappy and disloyal. Try feeding the pet immediately to make it happy.
- Call Pet: Summons your pet to you.
- Dismiss Pet: Dismiss your pet. Dismissing your pet will reduce its happiness by 50.
- Beast Training: Lets you train your pet with various abilities that you have learned how to teach.
- Feed Pet: Feed your pet the selected item. Feeding your pet increases happiness. Using food close to the pet's level will have a better result.
- Revive Pet: Revive your pet, returning it to life with 15% of its health.
- Track Humanoids: Shows the location of all nearby humanoids on the minimap. Only one form of tracking can be active at a time.
- Mend Pet: Heals your pet 20 health every second while you focus. Lasts 5 seconds.
- Distracting Shot: Distract the target, causing threat.
- Wing Clip: Inflicts 5 damage and reduces the enemy target's movement speed by 50% for 10 seconds.
- Eyes of the Beast: Take direct control of your pet and see through its eyes for 2 minutes.
- Scare Beast: Scares a beast, causing it to run in fear for up to 10 seconds. Damage caused may interrupt the effect. Only one beast can be feared at a time.
- Eagle Eye: Zooms in the hunter's vision. Only usable outdoors. Lasts 1 minute.
- Immolation Trap: Place a Fire trap that will burn the first enemy to approach for 105 Fire damage over 15 seconds. Trap will exist for 1 minute. Only one Fire trap can be active at a time.
- Mongoose Bite: Counterattack the enemy for melee weapon damage plus 15. Can only be performed after you dodge.
- Multi-Shot: Fires several missiles, hitting 3 targets. Multi-Shot shares its cooldown with Aimed Shot.
- Track Undead: Shows the location of all nearby undead on the minimap. Only one form of tracking can be active at a time.
- Aspect of the Cheetah: Increases your movement speed while active; any damage you take dazes you.
- Aimed Shot: An aimed shot that increases ranged damage by 20. Aimed Shot shares its cooldown with Multi-Shot.
- Disengage: Attempts to disengage from the target by reducing threat. Disables auto-attack.
- Freezing Trap: Place a Frost trap that freezes the first enemy that approaches, preventing all action for up to 10 seconds. Any damage caused will break the ice. Trap will exist for 1 minute. Only one Frost trap can be active at a time.
