Record WoW Forever drops, quest givers and vendors as you play

The Forever client holds every item, recipe and spell, but not where things drop, who gives a quest or what a vendor sells. The server sends those facts only to the player who meets them. World Recorder is an addon that keeps them while you play, and a small uploader sends them to wowdb.wiki, where every player's records are combined.

What it records

  • What each creature, chest, herb or ore node drops, how many corpses you looted and how many creatures you killed, so a drop rate has a real denominator.
  • Skinning, mining and herbalism loot apart from corpse loot, and money drops.
  • Who gives and who takes each quest, the quest text and its rewards.
  • What vendors sell and at what price, what trainers teach, and the flight routes and costs a flight master offers.
  • Fishing catches by zone, and creature levels, health and the spells they cast.
  • Each of your characters: name, realm, guild, level, equipment, talents, Legacy, professions and completed quests. Your wowdb.wiki profile shows them, and your public profile lists each one until you clear its Public box; money is never shown publicly.

The addon only listens and never acts for you. Quest text keeps your name as the game's own $n placeholder.

Install

Download the installer for your computer and open it:

  • macOS: World Recorder for Mac. Open the zip, then open World Recorder. macOS asks before opening an app from the internet the first time: open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, and choose Open Anyway.
  • Windows: World Recorder setup. If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", choose More info, then Run anyway.

It puts the addon in your WoW Forever client, starts the uploader at login and opens wowdb.wiki so you can link this computer to your account: sign in and choose Link this computer. Records are sent only from linked computers.

The same setup also runs from a terminal, without the confirmation step:

curl -fsSL https://wowdb.wiki/assets/world-recorder/install.sh | sh
irm https://wowdb.wiki/assets/world-recorder/install.ps1 | iex

If World of Warcraft is not in its default folder, set WOW_DIR to that folder before running a command.

When records are sent

The game writes addon data when you log out or exit, so there is nothing to click: play, then quit as usual. The uploader checks after every game start and every write, sends what changed once, compressed, and keeps a log of what was accepted, so nothing is sent twice and nothing is lost when you are offline.

To remove it, run wowdb-recorder uninstall from its folder and delete Interface/AddOns/WorldRecorder. Your linked computers are listed on your profile, where you can unlink one.
